John Fletcher, Board of Finance

For the Board of Finance, the most important issues are investing in schools and education; encouraging smart business development in town; and working in a bipartisan way to keep our spending affordable – as the BOF has in recent years. More broadly, it is important to keep our town government focused on Newtown issues. We need to prioritize what is relevant for our residents, and filter out non-local forces that only aim to cause artificial division.

Experience:
I’ve lived with my wife Jordana and four kids in Newtown for 23 years, and we’ve enjoyed all Newtown has to offer, including its great education, recreation, and community.

I have more than 35 years of corporate finance experience in large successful companies, including managing business plans, budgets, and capital investments
Across those roles, I have significant experience working across multiple organizations and constituents to accomplish goals
I’ve been a member of the Borough Zoning Board of Appeals for three years
In addition and more personally, we have four great kids who attended Newtown public schools. So I’m a strong advocate for investing in education, because it benefits our students directly and it increases the attractiveness and value of the town. Overall, the BOF specifically has contributed to a very strong financial position, with excellent credit ratings and manageable budget growth in the face of economy-wide inflation pressures.
