IT’S ABOUT NEWTOWN

Local elections are one of the cornerstones of our democracy. They directly and immediately impact our daily lives. Thus, being both informed and involved defines the democratic health of a community.

Our guiding principals when we engage on issues in Newtown:

Environment:

We Protect and preserve natural assets such as wetlands and water courses by minimizing disturbance and pollution. We support preserving open spaces, investing in recreational spaces, encouraging expansion of clean energy systems, and reducing harmful emissions.

Fair wages and Workers Rights:

We champion strong labor unions and workers rights that help increase fair wages, benefits, and better job standards for workers.

Healthcare:

We support universal, affordable health care for all as a basic human right, regardless of one’s income, insurance, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or immigrant status. This includes a woman’s right to choose and reproductive rights.

Policing and Public Safety:

We promote safety in Newtown through evidence based policies, and community-centric policing. We support our First Responders.

Education:

We support our public schools and libraries. We advocate for a safe, inclusive and accessible learning environment to offer quality education for all students regardless of ethnicity, family income, race, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, or gender identity. We support students’ first amendment’s rights, focusing on freedom of speech. We oppose censorship, including book banning.

Social Justice:

We embrace the growing diversity of our town through a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and belonging. Our support includes LGBTQ+ individuals and women’s empowerment. We actively condemn racism, sexism, religious bias and all forms of discrimination.

Voting Rights:

We will work towards growing voter registration in town, increase accessibility to safe polling places, encourage voter participation, and provide accurate information regarding polling places and absentee ballot procedures.

Economic Development and Infrastructure:

We support smart business that will contribute to balanced economic growth, provide positive environmental stewardship, protect property values and preserve and improve quality of life. We promote fair and equitable housing policies in Newtown.

Gun Safety:

We want common sense gun violence prevention legislation, including the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban to keep Newtown residents safe.
