What in your background serves you best in the office you’re running to hold?
My background has taught me to be able to listen carefully and not be shy about asking questions. I am also a team player who thoroughly enjoys learning and sharing with others.
What do you think are the most important traits necessary for anyone running for office to do a good job in the role of public servant?
I have worked in a multitude of fields, most predominantly, as a nurse and an actor. Nursing is rich with opportunities to meet the needs of people from all walks of life; and theatre teaches the soft skills of patience, cooperation and support.
The traits required to “do a good job” include being a good listener and co-worker.
How do you work with those who don’t share your views to find common ground?
It is essential for those working in groups to be willing to accept the ideas and concepts of others. We all work well with those of different philosophies and opinions by learning from them.

About:
When I was about 15 years old, I worked as a babysitter. One summer a family invited me to go with them to Rhode Island to watch their children, which I did. What I discovered during those weeks were the Watergate hearings, which ran on TV constantly. I was mesmerized and to this day I am compelled to keep abreast of political goings on. At this point in my life the opportunity to run for office in our beautiful town of Newtown is a dream come true.
As a working mother, I discovered many ways to earn a living. For much of my work life, I was a nurse. I was in this field for 45 years. For 19 of those years, I owned a business that provided medical-legal consulting to attorneys, although bedside care was always my preference. Eventually I sold the company and returned to nursing care until I retired.
The theater arts have long been a passion of mine. I am a playwright, director, and actor. I claim that nursing supported my acting habit. I performed in NYC and all over the CT area. I spent over five years teaching theater at Garner Correctional and several other Connecticut facilities. It was a very special and moving experience which ended suddenly when the pandemic closed in. To continue to participate in the theater world, I began teaching classes in assisted living and senior centers. I still do this work today and love it.
My plays are, for the most part, based on the events and people in American history. I received a Bachelors and Masters in history at Western Connecticut State University and continue to be an avid reader and writer of history. There is a comfort in knowing that events are cyclical. We have been here before.
For me, the most amazing life experience, is the incredibly good fortune I have had in raising four of the most wonderful people, who have married four equally terrific people and delivered the four cutest grandchildren possible! The fifth equally amazing person is my husband Kevin who supports my endeavors, always.
I am a devoted citizen of this town, a mother, a wife, and a person who respects and cares about all people. I want to run for office to help meet the needs, concerns, and well-being of the members of our community.
