Meet Brandon

Brandon Moore has dedicated his life to serving Connecticut and our country.
He was born and raised in Connecticut to parents who were also born and raised here. Connecticut is not a place Brandon discovered later in life. It has always been home.

His father worked as a carpenter and his mother worked in accounting at The Hartford Insurance Company. They built their lives through hard work and instilled in Brandon a deep belief in giving back to your community.

Brandon was the first in his family to attend college. That opportunity came when he was nominated by U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman and Congressman John Larson to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. At West Point, Brandon learned discipline, leadership, and a commitment to something larger than himself. Those lessons shaped the rest of his life.

After graduating from West Point, Brandon served eight years on active duty as a U.S. Army attack helicopter pilot. He flew reconnaissance missions along the Korean DMZ and combat missions in Afghanistan against the Taliban. During his service, Brandon commanded over 70 soldiers in combat, leading a unit responsible for protecting millions of Afghan civilians and American and allied forces. For his leadership in combat, Brandon was awarded the Bronze Star.

When his time in uniform ended, Brandon returned home determined to continue serving Connecticut in a different way. He earned graduate degrees from Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, studying how government and business can work together to solve the challenges facing working families.

Brandon also served as a Strategic Policy Fellow to Governor Ned Lamont and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz. He connected thousands of Connecticut residents with education, apprenticeships, transportation, childcare, and other critical resources needed to secure well-paying jobs. His work focused on expanding opportunity for parents, veterans, individuals leaving the corrections system, and unemployed residents hoping to reenter the workforce.

He also understands what it takes to win tough elections. Brandon ran Bruce Walczak’s successful campaign for Newtown First Selectman, flipping the seat and delivering an 11% victory this past year.

Today, Brandon works at a nonprofit called Leadership Now Project. He goes to work every day with one goal: support pro-democracy candidates across the country who are committed to defending the Constitution and strengthening American democracy.

For Brandon and his husband Mike, Newtown is more than a place to live. It is the community where they will build their family alongside Newtown neighbors. They share their home with their rescue dogs, Penny and Hitch, and hope to adopt their first child in the coming year.

You’ll find Brandon and Mike marching in the Labor Day Parade, dressed up as Buzz Lightyear and Woody handing out Halloween candy on Main Street, and cheering on neighbors during the Turkey Trot. In their free time, you can often find them walking their dogs around Fairfield Hills, grabbing ice cream at Ferris Acres, enjoying a beer at NewSylum, or stopping for a slice at Good Old Days.

Brandon is not a politician. He is a combat veteran and tested state policymaker who has spent his life solving real problems. From the battlefield to the state capitol, his mission has always been the same: serve with courage, protect the people he represents, and fight for a stronger future for Newtown.
