IT’S ABOUT NEWTOWN

Local elections are one of the cornerstones of our democracy. They directly and immediately impact our daily lives. Thus, being both informed and involved defines the democratic health of a community. The most important duty of each voter is to exercise that right on November 7th.

Municipal elections serve a separate function than State and National ones. As important as State and National policies are, our focus this November should be on electing candidates who will concentrate on local issues such as Schools, Streets, Security and Smart Development.

When we look at these local concerns, we see:

SCHOOLS

  • Maintaining a top level of excellence in education;
  • Ensuring a welcoming and inclusive school community of diverse students, educators and administrators;
  • Ensuring that our schools prepare our children for a lifetime of learning, and college and career readiness;
  • Sufficiently funding education while finding cost efficiencies, when available;

STREETS

  • Continuing to improve our roads and infrastructure and sufficiently finance the work;
  • Recognizing our roads and infrastructure affect our quality of life and personal safety;
  • Maintaining and improving our roads and infrastructure will enhance the options of Smart Development.

SECURITY

  • Protectively fostering a safe environment by working closely with our First Responders – Police, Fire and EMS;
  • Sufficiently funding the needs of the First Responders;
  • Cultivating inclusion within our community to provide a safe environment for all our Newtown residents;
  • Promoting fiscal security such that town and taxpayer money is effectively and prudently spent;

SMART DEVELOPMENT

  • Preserving Open Space;
  • Committing to Historic Preservation;
  • Promoting commercial and residential development that grows the tax base, complements the town qualities of life and preserves environmental safeguards.
