Professional/Business Experience:

I have been affiliated with Westport Resources since 1987, specializing in municipal benefit programs with a unique understanding of issues confronting towns and cities. My risk management activities include life insurance, disability income, employer benefit programs, group insurance, retirement plans and executive compensation programs. I also serve Westport Resources’ client needs in the area of personal financial planning. I am a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant, and hold an insurance producer’s license for life – annuities; accident and health; and property and casualty.

Public Service:

For five terms, I served as First Selectman of the Town of Newtown. I am a two-term past president of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Inter-Local Risk Management Agency (CIRMA), a past Chairman of the Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials and a past co-Chairman of the Housatonic Valley Economic Development Partnership. I am also a past president of the Western Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council. I also served as Chairman of the Newtown Board of Education and was Chairman of the Board of Education Connection, serving 33 towns in Northwestern Connecticut, for ten years.

I am currently a corporator of the Newtown Savings Bank, as well as a member of the President’s Advisory Council of Masonicare at Newtown (a nursing home and assisted living facility).  Also, I currently serve as a Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate, as a member of the Board of Health for the Newtown Health District, as Treasurer of the Housatonic Valley Resource Recovery Authority, as President of the Connecticut Coalition for Justice in Education Funding, as Chair of the CCM Budget & Personnel Committee and Chair of the CIRMA Budget & Audit Committee.


Earned a BA in Government from Fairfield University and hold the designations of Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant from American College.


I have lived in Newtown for over 60 years, attended Newtown Public Schools and am a graduate of Newtown High School. I am married to the former Michelle Williams, have four children and two step- children, all of whom attended Newtown schools. Michelle and I have ten grandchildren, three of whom attend Newtown schools.
