Joan Plouffe – Police Commission

I am originally from Stamford, CT, and moved to Newtown in 1996. I am a graduate of Westhill High School. I earned my BA from George Washington University and my JD from Syracuse University College of Law. I practiced law prior to starting a family.  I currently work as an office manager.

My children attended Newtown Public Schools. My daughter Jessica is currently a graduate student, pursuing her Doctorate of Psychology at the University of Hartford. My son David is a Freshman at Fairfield University. We also have a one year old yellow Labrador Retriever named Waffles.

I have always been active in our community, and feel passionately about giving back to our town. I have served in many different capacities in the 23 years I have lived in Newtown. I have been on PTA boards at my children’s schools with a focus on advocacy, served on the Strategic Planning Committee for the school district, been a member of a Charter Revision Commission and been a member of the Commission on Aging, just to name a few. I currently serve on the Police Commission.

I am also proud to serve in a number of capabilities on the Newtown Democratic Town Committee. I am currently a Vice Chair of the DTC, Chair of the Campaign, Chair of the Campaign Committee, and Chair of the Candidates Committee.
