Jordana Bloom

Candidate for Legislative Council District 2

I’ve lived in Newtown with my family for 15 years, and I’m passionate about our community. I want to get more involved in serving our town, and encourage others to do the same.

My family and I lived overseas for part of the past 15 years, which opened my eyes to a wide range of experiences and people. We have four children and I volunteered extensively in various school roles there. That experience made me appreciate even more the special community we have here, and reinforced the importance of education and community involvement in making Newtown an inclusive and appealing place to live; for all of our residents.

I work in town, and I’ve also been a retail store owner. The customer service and financial discipline required in those roles will translate well to the Legislative Council. In addition, as a small business owner I recognize the importance of a strong business environment in the long-term development of Newtown.

I’m a first time candidate for town office. I believe that my new perspective and enthusiasm for serving provides a valuable balance to the experienced candidates running. I want to set an example for all residents to actively participate in our government, because I believe that our town can be even stronger with government made more accessible to our talented and motivated citizens.

My goals are to ensure appropriate focus on our schools, develop a prudent business environment, and encourage broader participation in government in order to ensure the long-term strength of our outstanding town.

I feel very fortunate to live in Newtown, and I look forward to giving back to my community.

In 1990 I founded, designed, and managed one of the first up-market pet supply and gift boutiques. Our store won many customer awards and was very popular in the community. After six years I gave up that work to raise our children, but as a small business owner I can bring economic perspective and a customer orientation to the Legislative Council role.
