Board of Finance
Newtown is a great place to live. For over twenty years, my wife, Elizabeth, and I have been enjoying Newtown’s traditions, old and new. Our favorites have been the Labor Day Parade and Halloween on Main Street, the Scarecrow Contest, the high school musical, the Booth Library Book Sale, and the Newtown Arts Festival. Newtown’s very active volunteering has enriched our town, making these events, and many others, possible.
My own volunteering started with the school system where I revised the SHS website, read aloud in classrooms, worked at the SHS Harvest Festival, chaperoned on field trips, updated maps for the PTA Geography Program, and timed at the Torpedoes swim meets. As my kids got older, I began to think about being active in town government. In 2010, I was selected to an option position on the Board of Education and have since been elected to the BOE twice, finally serving as Chair for the past three and a half years.
I hope to bring a valuable perspective to the Board of Finance on budgets, Capital Improvement, Debt Policy, and financial planning. In my years on the Board of Education, I have become very familiar with the structure of the Town’s finances and budgeting process. With the knowledge I’ve accumulated, I will be able to be a productive member of the Board of Finance from the first day. Managing the town through the challenge of balancing revenues and expenditures continues to be a complex and significant job for our elected officials. I would be honored to continue to work hard for Newtown if elected to the Board of Finance.
