Over 21 years ago, I moved to Newtown with my three small children. From the moment our moving van arrived during an April snowshower, I have always felt at home and welcomed in Newtown. I found the Newtown Newcomers’ and got connected to so many wonderful people! I began volunteering immediately for Sandy Hook Elementary School and the Family Counseling Center (now Newtown Youth and Family Services). With lots of assistance, I co-chaired the Holiday Festival for several years while on their Board of Directors. I eventually became their Chairperson.
Many things have changed since my first years in town. The parks have been redone, Fairfield Hills has come alive, and I put down permanent roots. Now that my children are grown, I am drawn to help shape Newtown’s future by running for the Board of Finance. As a Director at a non-profit special education agency, I understand the complex financial issues and tough decision-making involved in running an organization that directly impacts people. I think that serving Newtown on the Board of Finance is a way to share my experience as an educator, taxpayer, and involved community member. I want Newtown to thrive through thoughtful fiscal responsibility today, so that we can all enjoy tomorrow, together.
