I was born and raised in Newtown and went through the school system from Kindergarten at Hawley School through senior year at Newtown High School (graduating in 2001). Throughout college I spent holidays and summers back in Newtown, working in the administrative offices of the Board of Education for the Assistant Superintendent. After graduating from college, I spent a few years in Boston and then moved to Albany, NY until my first son, Danny, reached Kindergarten age. At that time we took a look at the school district and didn’t like what we saw, so we made the decision to move back to Newtown so he would attend the excellent schools here.
I run my own web development business based here in Newtown which works with a lot of organizations (I specialize in non-profits) and have become familiar with the workings of many different groups and boards. Because of this, along with my time working on the administrative end of the school system and being a student in the district, I bring a unique combination of experience and knowledge to the board. I have a wealth of historical knowledge about where the district has been in the past (both the good and not so good) and an appreciation to how all the different areas of the district work together.
During my time on the Board of Education, I have brought a logical, data driven, and non-partisan thought process to all the work I have been involved in. This includes my work on the Policy and Communication sub-committees to time spent on the School Start Time Committee and as part of various search committees (most recently the Coordinator of Equity and Inclusion search committee). I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue working with all of my fellow board members to move our school district forward into the future.
