Jordana Bloom

Education

  • Dartmouth College, Bachelor of Arts

I have lived in Newtown with my family for 21 years and was encouraged by enormously supportive peers to get involved in the community. I want to continue to set an example for all residents to actively participate in our government. Married (husband John Fletcher); 4 children (Jamison 27, Jackson 24, Hudson 22, Hayden 20); 2 dogs Nutmeg and Fergus.

Issues that I feel are important to Newtown:

  • Increase funding for Newtown schools
  • Expand participation of women and other underrepresented groups in Newtown’s boards and commissions.
  • Work to make Newtown affordable for everyone.
  • Promoting environmental sustainability and protecting our town’s open spaces.
  • Support our small businesses and create opportunities for economic development.

Experience

  • Served two terms on the Newtown Legislative Council; served as Vice Chair of Municipal Operations subcommittee on the Legislative Council during my second term. Served 4 years on Ordinance subcommittee and 2 years on Education subcommittee.
  • Currently serving as the Strategic Project Manager for the C.H. Booth Library, responsible for fundraising and community outreach.
  • Currently serving my second year on the Community Center Commission.
  • Owned and managed a small business in CT for six years.
  • Worked in the health care industry in Newtown for 4 years.
